Well, I'm no longer in Washington State. Over the past few days I've been working my way back to school in Florida. That sadly means the pictures of all the waterfalls have come to an end. However, I still have a huge queue in Lightroom that will keep me occupied for a while -- which means there will probably be quite a few posted still; I'm trying to handle those right at this moment while I ride the train back to Florida.
That being said, with the end of waterfalls comes the start of beaches. Assuming I can get to sleep at some kind of a reasonable hour, sunrise pictures from the Daytona coast should be interesting, as well as, hopefully, various locations which I will discover while I'm in Florida. We'll see how that goes soon....

Slacking Off
It's really fun to take pictures, or at least so I think. So much fun sometimes you just say to yourself "hey, I think I'll go out today" and go take some shots without even knowing where to go. Problem with that is when you keep doing this by importing your shots to your computer, clearing the card, and going out again.
It works for a while, but eventually (at least with my workflow) you get this huge stack of shots (many of which might actually be good), and no clue how to go through them all.
Well that's where I am right now. For the past few weeks I've been taking pictures literally everywhere. I've got shots of streams, rivers, mountai
Remember to Back Up!
I would like to say I'm pretty handy with computers. I'm a software engineer, after all. One would hope that I know what I'm doing.
That being said, I finally upgraded from Windows 7 Beta to Windows 7 RC a few days ago. I thought I was smart -- all of my pictures are on another drive, separate from where Windows is located, so I wouldn't lose anything. I had nothing to worry about. But, being the meticulous individual I am, I made sure to make comprehensive backups of everything (including my "Pictures" drive, which theoretically wasn't going to be touched) just in case.
Today, four days later I'm toying around in Lightroom and notice somet
Comments on Light Pollution
Last night I decided to go out and take some shots of the night sky. I ended up being out for almost 5 hours, and watched a sunset in the process (taking some shots, but that really wasn't my focus). The sad part is, though, I really couldn't tell when the sunset ended.
I ended up being at my location until about 12:30 AM and still there was a distinct yellow glow at the horizon. The best I can tell is that it was light pollution from Portland. It's somewhat depressing when you think that the area is so dense that there really isn't a "night" anymore.
That being said I was able to turn around and get some shots of a canyon instead, which st
I'm Back!
So it's been a few years, and I've been doing everything between school and work and travelling across the country. A little update for myself:
* I'm still very actively involved in development (code) communities
* I currently am pursuing a Master's of Software Engineering at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (being paid for by the school as I teach labs for them)
* I am currently working at a leading unmanned aircraft company as a software engineering intern (on the flight controls team, to be specific)
Slightly more on topic, I obtained a new camera a few weeks ago to finally retire my near-8-year-old Minolta Maxxum 5. (I loved the p
